
Donald Joseph “Don” Hancock, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27 at The Waters Nursing Home in Muncie, Indiana.
Don was born May 15, 1930 in Longview, Washington, to Michael and Esther (Allman) Hancock. He graduated from Everett (Washington) High School in 1948 and worked for the Weyerhaeuser Company before entering the U.S. Army in 1951. While in the Army, he served as an Ordnanceman with the Battery C 95th AAA Gun Battalion in Mannheim, Germany, until his discharge in 1953. He then attended vocational school in Tacoma, Washington, where he trained in auto body repair. He married the former Betty Isakson in 1954. Don worked as a body and fender man until his retirement. In 1993, he and Betty moved from their home in Redmond, Washington to Klamath Falls, Oregon where they lived until Betty’s death in 2009. Don greatly enjoyed auto racing throughout his life, and he and Betty traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states. Their favorite mode of travel was via Amtrak, and they served as volunteer guides and interpreters on the train while living in Oregon. Don and Betty were members of the Golden Wheels Racing Fraternity for many years.
Don is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Charlie) Bowman, of Anderson, Indiana, Mary (Ed) Hughes of Valley Lee, Maryland, daughter-in-law Pamela Johnson-Hancock of Dewittville, New York and sons Joseph (Michelle) Hancock of Monroe, Washington and Robert (Joanna) Hancock of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, elder son James, parents Michael and Esther Hancock, brother John Hancock, sister Eleanor Goins and treasured grandson Andrew Bowman.
